Throw a boomerang and catch it on the way back #248

A ball goes where it is thrown; a boomerang comes back. That one difference makes it a better toy for a campus full of open lawns: throw it across the grass, watch it curve, and catch it without breaking stride. It is also a throwing item with a skill, which the inventory does not have.

How it fits. The throw code already carries a point with gravity and a direction; a boomerang adds spin and a return curve, so its path is a loop rather than a parabola. It is a held item with a throw and a catch: the catch is a small window around the returning body, and a missed catch leaves it on the ground to pick up. The flight is local, like the ball; peers only need the held-item state and the throw.

Scope.

  • Throw with a spin and a curved return; no homing, just physics.
  • Catch on the return, with a stumble if it is caught badly.
  • A hard surface makes it bounce instead of returning.
  • Wind pushes the curve, so the lawn is not the same every day.
  • Shop colors; no difference in flight.

Related. #112 (throw and roll), #11 (disc golf), #227 (kites and rockets), #186 (wind).
