The smoke step focuses the window and presses space up to three times (20 s each) until the server sees a change-conference. Why the press was lost: the server sees the login before the main view's key listener exists. Real users aren't affected, since the login screen shows until the main view is ready, so it's a test-only fix.

Verified: tools/desktop-smoke.sh passes locally.

The server sees the login before the main view and its key listener are
up; on a busy runner that took longer than the fixed pause, and the one
press was lost (run #197). Focus the window and retry up to three times.
A real user isn't affected: the login screen stays until the main view
is ready.
