A pocket-sized rubber duck is the right kind of useless: it squeaks, it bobs, and it goes wherever the water goes. Put one in the river and it is a toy; put a dozen in and it is a race. It also gives the campus water a reason to be looked at up close.
How it fits. A duck is a small body that switches from the throw's flight to a floating state when it touches water. Drift is a current along the river plus the wind, the same field a canoe will use. The duck is one tiny scene instance, not a new vehicle, and peers can draw it from the same held-item state the ball and the drone use. A race is the gate-and-clock idea from the drone applied to a downstream course.
Scope.
