Found:

A new personal post (one in my letterbox) isn't a notification kind at all. #103 covered chat messages, replies to my posts, and mentions.
With NeoKOM in front, replies, mentions and personal posts give no sign at all. The system notification is held back on purpose, and nothing in the app takes its place.
The phone tab bar's Inkorg tab has no unread count. The side panel's Inkorg link has one.
There's no way to check whether a device can show notifications.
The real API does work: tried in full headless Chromium with permission granted, a chat message showed as a real notification through the service worker.

Work:

New kind: personal posts to me ("notify-personal", on by default).
In front: an in-app notice with a "Visa" button, for the kinds that are on.
A count on the Inkorg tab.
"Skicka en provavisering" in the settings, which says why it couldn't show, if it couldn't.

Phones with NeoKOM in the background are a separate issue (push).

The user tried 0.3 on their phone and desktop (2026-10-19): "Mentions get highlited and are easy to write, but they do not create an extra notification or anything. Notifications that you have a new message in the Inkorg does not work either. Not on phone and not on desktop." Merged in #137. Verified:

The real Notification API in full headless Chromium, with permission granted: a chat message showed as a notification through the service worker.
notifications.spec now covers a personal post notifying, a mention while in front showing a notice whose Visa opens it, and the test notification.
inbox.spec checks the Inkorg tab count going down after reading.
The full suite passed: 211 tests on desktop, Android and iPhone.
Phone screenshots of the notices checked. That's how the squeezed layout was caught and fixed.
CI green on the branch head before merging.
