Refs #359 (stays open: the black square couldn't be reproduced; questions are on the issue)

  • A GIF that fits the server's text limit is posted as it is, whatever its size (it used to be redrawn as JPEG over 1 600 px, keeping one frame).
  • A GIF too big for the server still goes as a still JPEG, and the composer and chat reply say the animation is lost.

Verified: new gif.spec (a GIF encoder in the spec, no fixture files): still GIF shown in the right colour, animated GIF seen changing frames, wide GIF kept as GIF, oversized GIF sent as JPEG with the note. Clippy three ways.

A GIF over 1 600 px was redrawn as a JPEG even when it fit the server's
text limit, keeping only its first frame. Now any GIF that fits is kept.
One that doesn't fit still goes as a still JPEG (a browser can't shrink
an animation), and the composer says the animation is lost.
